Looking forward to the big run!

My name is Mr. Onkar Bahia and I'm pretty excited about running in the Sun Run on the Surrey Connect team. I've been teaching Math for the past ten years at Enver Creek Secondary in Surrey.

I've participated in the Sun Run before and have found it to be a great event each and every time (especially because of all the free stuff you get after you're done at BC place)!

Each year I find the Sun Run to be a motivating experience to keep my fitness up since I can check my official time the next day and compare it to other years I ran (I admit my times are getting longer as I get a little older).

I encourage everyone to participate just to see the start of the run; the mass of humanity bouncing up and down takes your breath away.

I start training on Monday (I hope)!

Who's on our team? participant bios

OK, so I was thinking since we're all signed up as part of the Surrey Connect Sun Run team, it might be a fun idea to get to know a little bit more about who is in our group. This Sun Run blog was created to be a place where we could all go to learn more about the Sun Run and also interact with other team members....so why not upload a pic and share some more info about yourself! All participants will be invited to the blog and have the ability to create your own bio post...or any post they might think up! If you don't want to create your own post, you can reply to this one and introduce yourself...or reply to any post you see.

....OK, I'll start! I'm Mark Avery, PE teacher at Surrey Connect. I taught PE at Guildford Park for many moons before starting this job in Sept '08. I've played soccer almost all my life and this is my first SUN RUN. My wife Lisa is also running it with me and my daughter Julia walked it last year with her Opa. Oh ya, Opa is Lisa's dad Joe and he is joining us as a walker. I don't really do a lot of jogging because I prefer to ride my road bike for fitness and fun, but I'm looking forward to the big day!

Sun Run Invitation

Have you heard about the annual SUN RUN event every spring in downtown Vancouver? It is a 10 kilometre route that goes through Stanley Park, continues along English Bay and ultimately ends at B.C. Place stadium. I am organizing a Surrey Connect school team entry into this year's SUN RUN!
All the costs will be covered by Surrey Connect for the first 25 students who sign up ($20 value.) If the idea of jogging 10k seems too difficult, you can set your individual goal that fits your interest and fitness level.
There are 13 week training programs designed for a 10 k walk, Learn to Run 10k, and Run 10k faster...something for everyone! The training program will help you gradually work your way up to meet your goal and can also count for the bulk of your activity log cardio hours (if you are taking Surrey Connect PE.)
If you are interested in this opportunity contact Mr. Avery somehow! (email, phone, blog response)
The deadline for sign up is Wednesday Feb 11, but if there is room you could sign up later.
I have never done the Sun Run before but my wife says it is a great experience so I'm keen to give it a try!

Come try it with the rest of the Surrey Connect Sun Run team!
Mr. Avery
