Lisa Avery from Arizona

I have run the sun run a few times. I run it in about an hour, a steady yet challenging pace for me. This year I haven't trained as much as I need to, but I can always walk can't I Mark Avery? I am currently on vacation in Mesa Arizona, so it has made it easy for me to find the motivation to pick up my walking pace, and actually start running with my ipod providing the tunes, and the sun shining on my face. Sounds good doesnt' it!! Good Luck everyone.

Newbie

So this is my first time doing the SunRun, and my first time "blogging." I'm excited to do both, and I can't wait till i cross the finish line! I hope everyone will be willing to share their secrets to success, whether it's on how to make the most of the training program, or giving some interesting ideas for future blogs. Until next time everyone...

Ethel's Bio

Hello.

I am originally from the Philippines. We came to Canada in 2000 after staying in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for about seven year.

This is my first time to participate in an event such as this. I am not a runner nor a walker. A few months back I decided to go into an exercise program and have been successful in achieving my goal. This is the next step I suppose to achieving that healthy mind and body that I am looking forward to.

I am continuing my 1 hour a day exercise program 5 days a week and have added a 40 - walking component into it to prepare for April 19. I hope I can finish this Sun Run.

Training program report... What did you do today?

I didn't train today, but on sat I went with my family to the track and we did a bunch of walking and jogging for about 45 mins...building up the run by walking a lap, run for 1/2 and walk for half, and then run for one lap and walk for a half...even 4 yr old Laura was participating! I find it a lot easier for my kids to have success and feel positive about jogging if we do a combination of walk/run activities....exercise doesn't have to be painful!

History of...

I thought a few readers might be interested in the history of the Vancouver Sun Run...

(source)

The Vancouver Sun Run, sponsored by The Vancouver Sun newspaper, is a 10km race held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada each year on the third (sometimes the fourth) Sunday in April since 1985. The first Vancouver Sun Run in 1985 started with approximately 3,700 participants[1], and has grown each year since. With over 39,000 finishers in 2006, it ranked as the 9th largest race in the world[2] and the 3rd largest 10km race, behind only the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta and the Bolder Boulder in Boulder.
The 2006 event took place on April 23 and 50,746[3] participants registered for the 10km Sun Run and the 2.5km "mini Sun Run", which was run by 2,000 people, mostly children and their parents, with some school teams participating as well. On April 15, 2007, the Sun Run had a record amount of participants, with 54,317[3] people registered to participate in the 10km and 2.5km races, making it the largest 10 km road race in Canada and the second largest in North America[3].
On April 20, 2008, the record was again broken, with 59,179[3] runners registered for the run making it the largest 10 kilometre race in the world. The temperature was a chilly 3°C (37.4°F).
The primary mandate of the Sun Run is to "promote health, fitness and community spirit and to support amateur athletics". The run is not a charity event; however, the organisers claim over $1.1 million in race proceeds have been donated to charities since 1985.

Looking forward to the big run!

My name is Mr. Onkar Bahia and I'm pretty excited about running in the Sun Run on the Surrey Connect team. I've been teaching Math for the past ten years at Enver Creek Secondary in Surrey.

I've participated in the Sun Run before and have found it to be a great event each and every time (especially because of all the free stuff you get after you're done at BC place)!

Each year I find the Sun Run to be a motivating experience to keep my fitness up since I can check my official time the next day and compare it to other years I ran (I admit my times are getting longer as I get a little older).

I encourage everyone to participate just to see the start of the run; the mass of humanity bouncing up and down takes your breath away.

I start training on Monday (I hope)!
